An Advocacy Journalist and Founder of Obasi Foundation For Justice, Isaac Obasi has called on the government of Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) to free Solomon Akuma.

Akuma is a bright young pharmacist in his 20s serving with National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC and has been unlawfully detained in Abuja prison for over 300 days. He was recently visited by fiery rights activist Omoyele Sowore.

This young pharmacist Like every other Nigerian, that is sick and tired of the worsening situation especially security in the country threw a harmless banter in response to a tweet and that was it, typical of this regime he was hounded and incarcerated.

Renowned and celebrated Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka captured it perfectly, when he said that for one’s sanity we should just forget about the Buhari’s government because they have failed woefully especially in protecting lives and properties as kidnappers killers, bandits, terrorists are having a field day unleashing mayhem on Nigerians.

Buhari’s despotism, fascism and Hitlerism has become unprecedented as his assaults on Nigerians who points out his incompetence, corruptions and ineptitudes is alarming but he must be reminded that this is not 1983 and he must stop this brazen onslaughts against dissents.

This is not the time to look other ways while this regime continue shrinking civic spaces, hunting dissents and putting fears on Nigerians so that they will not be held accountable while the nation gets worse as world’s poverty capital, terrorism capital, hungry capital, jobless capital, kidnaping capital, highest cost of living capital, darkness capital, illiteracy capital, out of school children capital amongst others.

Obasi ended with the words of Martin Luther King Jr. who said “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”

“The hottest place in Hell is reserved for those who remain neutral in times of great moral conflict.”
