Six people were killed in an attack by bandits in Pinau village, Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State. Residents said the bandits stormed the community around 3 pm, on Wednesday, July 27, and started shooting sporadically.

Garba Kasuwa, a resident of the area who fled his home confirmed that
the assailants came in their numbers on motorcycles, carrying guns.

“Before the arrival of the bandits, hundreds of residents of the community have already fled because of the fear of being attacked, and that is why the casualty figure is not much. Six people were killed. The bandits on their arrival asked people to remain in their rooms. They broke into our shops and stole food items and other properties. They also kidnapped some people. The situation was pathetic,”  the resident.

The spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a multi-security task force maintaining peace in the state, major Ishaku Takwa, who confirmed the development, claims that troops were sent to the area.

The incident occurred five days after the residents of the Wase town raised the alarm over the withdrawal of soldiers from the area, a development that forced hundreds of occupants to flee their homes.
