NSCDC Sanctions 66 Personnel Over Misconduct, Says Serious Cases May Go to Court

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps says 66 personnel drawn from formations across the country have been sanctioned following disciplinary investigations.

Commandant-General Ahmed Audi told journalists in Abuja that the penalties included warnings, demotion, compulsory retirement and dismissal, depending on the seriousness of each offence. He said some cases involved alleged arms dealing and that personnel linked to particularly serious offences could face prosecution.

According to the Corps, the affected officers went through established procedures, including orderly-room trials and staff disciplinary committees, before the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board approved the sanctions.

Audi said the officers came from state, zonal and area commands, the national headquarters and other formations. He described discipline as central to the credibility of a paramilitary institution and said the action was intended to deter misconduct.

The NSCDC also said roughly 17,000 personnel had qualified for promotion after about 22,000 sat for examinations, subject to available vacancies approved by the Federal Government.
