Lagos Places Okada Ban In Six Local Govts And Nine LCDAs

The administration of Lagos state has made public the list of six local governments and nine local government development areas where Okada has been banned.

Following the lynching and death of a sound engineer in Lekki, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu today put a new ban on the operation of commercial motorcycles known as Okadas.

At a meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Area Commanders, and Divisional Police Officers at the State House in Alausa on Wednesday, the governor issued the command.

The governor directed security officers to enforce the proscription order across the listed councils beginning June 1, 2022.The new Okada ban comes after a February 2020 restriction on commercial motorbike activities.

According to Sanwo-Olu, the government made the decision to handle the turmoil and threat produced by Okada’s operations in the designated locations in accordance with the State’s Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.

Eti-Osa, Ikeja, Surulere, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, and Apapa are among the councils affected.

Sanwo-Olu said the total ban order extends to all LCDAs under the listed councils.

The governor advised residents patronising Okada riders on highways to embrace the alternative transport schemes already provided by the government to plan their journey.
