In a bold move, Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has suspended his Special Adviser on Salary and Pensions, Bashir Ado, following the circulation of an unapproved statement claiming the governor had approved a new ₦70,000 minimum wage.
The announcement, which made rounds in the media, was quickly disowned by the governor in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Bala Ibrahim. Namadi clarified that the committee tasked with determining an appropriate wage is yet to complete its work. “The statement is embarrassing and premature,” the governor noted.
Ado’s suspension comes as a committee, led by the State Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Bello Abdulkadir, has been set up to investigate the source and motive behind the false statement. The committee is expected to submit its findings within two weeks.
Several top officials, including the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, and the Commissioner for Health, are part of the investigative team.
