President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to commend him when he is doing well and also criticize him if his government is not getting it right.

Tinubu made the comment on Sunday in Abuja while declaring open the annual conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

“If I do well, please praise me, and if I don’t do well, please criticize me to do well,” the president’s spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, quoted Tinubu as saying in a statement.

The conference, themed, ‘Getting it Right: Charting the Course for Nigeria’s Nation-Building’, had over 16,000 lawyers in attendance.

In his welcome address, NBA President, Barrister Yakubu Maikyau (SAN) commended President Tinubu for attending the event and hailed him for his track record and achievements in Lagos State.

He said: “Your excellency, we can’t talk about getting it right, which is the theme of this conference, without talking about your track record and your achievements in Lagos State. You have done well; on behalf of all our members, I welcome your excellency to this conference with renewed hope.”

Those present at the event include the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; and Minister for the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Others are the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; Minister of Sports, John Enoh, and other senior government officials.
