Emefiele, Akpabio, Amaechi, Sylva, Others Contesting For 2023 Presidential Elections Should Resign — Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria has ordered any ministers who plan to run for president in 2023 to quit immediately.

According to TheNation, Buhari singled out Emeka Nwajiuba, the Minister of State for Education, for defying the odds by resigning to avoid a conflict of interest.

Other Ministers hoping to become Governors, Senators, and members of the House of Representatives, on the other hand, were busy trying to figure out if they were affected.

At the end of the Federal Executive Council, the President announced his resignation.

The President, clearly enraged, announced that he had received Nwajiuba’s resignation as a candidate for President.He said: “I expect other members of this council seeking to be President to resign with immediate effect.”

A source in the cabinet said: “We were not clear if this directive will affect other ministers aspiring to be governors, Senators and House of Representatives members.

“We are expecting more clarifications soon.”

Some of the aspirants include Governor of Central Bank, Mr. Godwin Emefiele; the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr. Timipreye Sylva and the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Godswill Akpabio.
