COVID-19: 70 Percent Of Confirmed Cases Are Male ― Minister of Health

The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, stated during the Wednesday Presidential Task Force Briefing in Abuja that a breakdown of the confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Nigeria indicated that 70 per cent are male and 30 per cent female.

Ehanire also hinted that the age range of these COVID-19 victims is mostly between 30 and 60 years.

Clarifying this stat does not indicate the vulnerability of a gender to the coronavirus case, the minister said; “I must be quick to stress that both men and women of all ages can be infected”.

Ehanire also noted that therecorded fatalities have “underlying serious ailment which no doubt aggravated their conditions”.

Contrary to the minister’s report that Nigeria now has 139 confirmed cases of the COVID-19, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported that the nation now has 151 confirmed cases of the virus.

The NCDC coronavirus cases breakdown attributed; Lagos- 82; FCT- 28; Osun- 14; Oyo- 8; Ogun- 4; Edo- 4; Kaduna- 3; Enugu- 2; Bauchi- 2; Ekiti- 2; Rivers-1; and Benue- 1.

The coronavirus disease was first reported in the city of Wuhan, China.

Vanguard recalled that there was no record in Nigeria until February 27 when an Italian foreigner returning to Nigeria was discovered to be infected with the virus.

The Italian (index case in Nigeria) has since been discharged by the Lagos State Government after treatment and tests that indicated he is free of the virus.
