As one of its measures to curb the spread of coronavirus in Lagos, the state government has kicked off an identification process so as to ascertain all who had contact with the infected Italian man.

According to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in a press briefing, those who will be discovered as contacts of the man in the state will be immediately quarantined. Confirming this, the state’s commissioner for health, Akin Abayomi, said that the process started in the afternoon of Friday, February 28, Premium Times reports.

Abayomi said: “We will like to assure everybody that we are on this case to make sure that we can identify everyone he has come in contact with.” The commissioner added that the ministry of health in the state has activated a mechanism that will track the movement of the Italian right from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport to Ogun state. He went on to say that the state government is trying to break the current of the possible spread of the virus by identifying all who had contact with the man and isolating them.

Abayomi also pointed out: “If he has respiratory symptoms, it is likely to be more contagious than it is at the moment.” Meanwhile, GIOTV reported that less than one day after an Italian national was detected to have symptoms of coronavirus in Ogun, officials of a cement factory he visited had discovered those who had physical contact with him.

Informing the public about the discovery, the spokesperson of the firm, Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, said that although the identities of the persons in question cannot be revealed, they had been quarantined and were examined.
