The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has disclosed that one of the seven prospective corps members abducted in Zamfara State and the bus driver have been released.

Recall that the victims were abducted by bandits along a highway within Zamfara on August 17, 2023.

The recent graduates were said to have been travelling with the Akwa Ibom Transport Company (AKTC) bus from Uyo to Sokoto State to take part in the mandatory National Service when the vehicle was intercepted.

In a statement signed by the Director, of Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, it was disclosed that the release was secured through the help of security agencies on Friday, October 20, 2023, at about 12:30 p.m.

Megwa said the scheme was confident that with the combined efforts of security agencies, the rest of the prospective corps members still in captivity would be released.

“Corps members and prospective ones alike are admonished by management to always prioritise their personal security. The scheme shall never shirk its responsibility of upholding the security and welfare of corps members at all times,” he said.
