The Kogi State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has been placed into mourning.
This comes in response to the untimely passing of broadcast journalist Mrs. Queen Toba Shaibu from the Kogi State Broadcasting Service.
After a brief illness, late Shaibu passed away on Thursday.
Just over a year after Lucy Damian, a member of the Kogi State Broadcasting Service staff, passed away, Queen Toba Shaibu also passed away.
Before her demise, Shaibu was a member of the Kogi State Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).
Meanwhile, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), has mourned her demise.
In a statement jointly signed by the Kogi State SWAN Chairman Aturu Bishop and Secretary Aliyu Mohammed Lawal, the association expressed shock over her sudden demise.
The statement reads in part, “We the entire members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kogi State chapter, express sadness over the sudden passage of one of our members, Queen Toba Shaibu (Mrs) whose sad and painful death occurred on today Thursday, September 15, 2022, following a brief illness.
“We received the news of your death with grief and disbelief having just recovered from a grave ailment recently. We view your loss as shocking and a great loss to SWAN in Kogi State, and the journalism fraternity in general.
“Your death has robbed us of a genuinely warm and affectionate colleague, a loving wife and mother, and deprived so many of us of a good friend. This is another dark moment in the annals of our great association, and we are all shocked by your sudden demise given your pivotal roles in and around sports broadcasting and activism.
“We are distraught over the incident as you had always volunteered to help improve the lots of SWAN, Journalism, and humanity. Your determination to carry on with great courage despite the challenge you faced by way of grave illness demonstrated your fighting spirit and doggedness. This is quite exemplary.”
“We will sorely miss your immeasurable contributions to Kogi SWAN and the NUJ in the state as you rendered outstanding services to journalism and humanity. While we mourn this loss, we pray that God will grant your soul eternal rest, comfort the family, colleagues at Radio Kogi and the Kogi NUJ you left behind.”
