The United States Vice President-elect, Kamal Harris, has revealed that her emergence as the first woman Vice President will be a stepping stone to ushering in a new era of possibilities for other women with political ambitions in America.

Speaking on Saturday night in Wilmington, Delaware, after President-elect, Joe Biden’s victory, Harris said she recognized the battle women had to face for the right to vote and break into the highest ranks in American politics.

According to her, while she may be the first woman in the office, she will not be the last, adding that every little girl who watched the election process has seen that America is a country of possibilities.

She also thanked black women, saying that even though they are often overlooked, they have proven that they are the backbone of democracy.

”I want to thank women who fought and sacrificed so much for equality, liberty and justice for all, especially black women, who are too often overlooked, but have proven that they are the backbone of our democracy.

“Tonight I reflect on their struggle, their determination, and the strength of their vision to see what can be unburdened by what has been.

“What a testament it is to Joe’s character that he had the audacity to break one of the most substantial barriers that exist in our country and select a woman as his vice president.

“To the American people who make up our beautiful country, thank you for turning out in record numbers to make your voices heard.

“However, I know times have been challenging especially the last two months the grief, sorrow, pain, the worries and the struggles, but we’ve also witnessed your courage, resilience and the generosity of your spirit.

“For four years, you matched and organized for equality and justice for our lives and for our planet and then you voted,” she said.

She also expressed gratitude to Biden and his family, thanking him, “for welcoming her family into theirs on this incredible journey.”
