A United Kingdom High Court has set aside the registration of the sum of N500m damages entered in favour of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries and its General Overseer, Dr Daniel Olukoya, by an Ogun State High Court against a UK-based blogger, Maureen Badejo.
GIOTV gathered that the judgment was registered against Badejo on Tuesday, March 30, 2021.
The Court also awarded a cost of £50 against MFM and its General Overseer in favour of Badejo after setting aside the said registration of N500M damages entered against the defendant.
Recall that the PUNCH had reported that Justice Abiodun Akinyemi of an Ogun State High Court in Abeokuta delivered a judgment on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, in which damages of N500m were awarded to MFM and Olukoya, against Maureen Badejo for aggravated libel.
Justice Akinyemi awarded the damages in a default verdict against Badejo for libellous publications against Olukoya and MFM, his church.
The court also granted “a perpetual injunction restraining the defendant by herself, her agents, servants, privies or other persons howsoever called or described from further making, publishing and/or disseminating defamatory stories and statements about the claimants or any one of them.”
GIOTV reports that the said judgement was registered against Maureen Badejo for execution by the UK court.
Delivering his ruling, Justice Master Cook, said: “the registration orders dated March 30, 2021, in respect of the judgement dated February 9, 2021, by the High Court Justice of Ogun State Nigeria in the proceedings numbered AB/407/2020 as a judgement in the Queen Bench Division of High Court of Justice are set aside”
“The claimant shall pay the defendant cost of the application assessed at £50 within 14 days”, the Judge added.
