Five lives have been lost in a boat mishap at Isa’i in Farar-Doka in Mariga local government area of Niger State.
The boat which was conveying ten passengers from Unguwan dan Daudu who were heading to a naming ceremony capsized few minutes after takeoff from Isa’i.
Confirming the unfortunate incident, the chairman of Mariga local government, Idris Ibrahim, said five people were rescued when it capsized while one sustained injuries.
Also confirming the incident, the Director-General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) Ibrahim Inga, said the incident occurred due to over flooding of the Farar Doka stream.
“The incident happened at Farar Doka stream due to over flood. They were nine on the canoe, four rescued, while five got missing but their bodies have been recovered and evacuated,” he said.
