A middle-aged man was on Sunday crushed to death by a tipper driver along Owerri road in Onitsha, Anambra state.
The deceased was reportedly crossing the ever-busy expressway when he was knocked down by the driver of the truck who drove against traffic.
The State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Andrew Kumapayi confirmed the incident.
He said the corpse has been deposited at the morgue after the doctor’s confirmation.
He said, “At about 1140hrs this Sunday 13th December 2020, a middle-aged man was crushed by a Tipper driver whose identity was not captured with a blue MAN Diesel truck without registration number recorded near Owerri road by City biscuit junction, Onitsha.
“According to eyewitnesses, the truck driver took one way and eventually crushes a male adult who was crossing the expressway after alighting from a Tricycle.
“The crash involves a total of three male adults including the crushed victim who was rushed to Toronto hospital by men of the NPF before the arrival of FRSC rescue team from Upper Iweka Outpost who are on ground to ensure the free flow of traffic while obstruction is being cleared.
While condoling with the deceased family, Kumapayi warned motorists especially truck drivers to desist from route violation (one-way Driving) as the Corps will not take it lightly with anyone caught Driving one way.
He advised pedestrians to always use pedestrian bridges were available and observe traffic drills before crossing the road as a road.
