The Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Lagos State chapter, Apostle Alexander Bamgbola, has called on the Federal Government to tackle insecurity, saying it is hampering the progress of the nation.

Bamgbola made the call in reaction to the increasing attacks and killings by Boko Haram insurgents and bandits.

A statement issued by the church on Tuesday quoted the CAN chairman as making the call on Monday at a press conference in Lagos to announce its 2020 ‘Interdenominational Divine Service’ scheduled to hold at Shepherd Hill Baptist Church in Lagos.

Bamgbola said, “The Federal Government has to rise up and deal with the insecurity challenge in our nation. With insecurity on the rise, the country can never make any progress.

“Nigeria is a great nation by any standard; hence, this is not the way we should be. Nigeria should look like England or Germany and not a state hit by insecurity. We need to progress as a nation by dealing with insecurity to promote peace, unity, and progress and also attract foreign investors. We cannot keep silent and allow the nation to go down the drain. Our leaders should be having sleepless nights to proffer ways and measure out of insecurity.”

On the program, tagged ‘Jesus Christ: the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end,’ the Christian leader said, “The IDDS is a major annual event of CAN Lagos State where the entire five blocs of CAN come together to worship and praise Jesus in thanksgiving. It’s a great time of unity and oneness in Christian fellowship as special thanksgiving is rendered for the peace and prosperity of Lagos State and prayers for our dear nation, Nigeria.

“This is the time to be united against the forces of evil attacking our nation. The Church has been under gruesome attack as we know what has been going on in recent times.”

He called for continued prayers for peace, unity and all-round development in the state.
