The Super Falcons of Nigeria have crashed out of the 2024 Paris Olympics without a win after losing 3-1 to Japan to make it three losses in three games.

Nigeria lost their first two games against Brazil and Spain, but went into Wednesday’s match hoping to make it to the quarter-finals of the women’s football event of the Olympics.

In Wednesday’s clash, Japan scored twice in the opening minutes after Hamano Maika scored first before Tanako Maina’s well-taken free-kick beat Chiamaka Nnadozie in the 32nd minute.

The Japanese girls wrapped up the victory with another goal by Hikaru Kitagawa after Jennifer Echegini thought she had given the Nigerians a lifeline when she put one back.

Nadeshiko Japan finished as Group B runner-up, two points behind World Champions, Spain who beat Brazil 2:0.
