Christians in Ogun state have been warned to stop holding prayer meetings in the forests, so they don’t get kidnapped.
The police command gave the warning as it revealed that despite the incessant kidnappings, some Christians still go to the forest to pray, which make them easy targets for kidnappers who are mainly based in those forests.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, in a statement he signed, explained that holding prayer sessions in isolated areas is risky due to the present security challenges in the country
Oyeyemi, however, assured residents that the command is working round the clock to wipe out kidnappers from the state but pleaded with residents not to make themselves easy targets to these outlaws by avoid vulnerable places. He enjoined citizens to ensure they protect themselves as he borrowed a verse from the Bible and quoted “after all, the scripture even enjoined us to watch and pray.”
“If there is any compelling reason to embark on such prayer sessions, the organizers should report to the nearest police station for advice and possible security patrol of the area.” he added
