Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, has alleged that fake COVID-19 certificates are on sale in the state.

Abayomi said this at a press conference to give an update on the second wave of the virus in Lagos.  He said it has come to the attention of the government that several people who came into the country were patronizing individuals who sell fake COVID-19 results certificates.

He said the state government is currently setting up machinery in place to apprehend those doing such unscrupulous businesses.

“Positivity for inbound travelers is on the rise (8% this week, 4% cumulative) as Nigerians in Diaspora return to spend Christmas in Lagos. It has come to our attention that several people are patronizing individuals that sell fake COVID-19 results.

We are currently putting in processes to identify both buyers and sellers and we will not hesitate to prosecute either to the full extent of the law.” he said

Abayomi attributed the second wave of COVID19 in the state to the reopening of schools, General Laxity and non-adherence to guidelines, the opening of the economy, large religious
congregations and social gatherings and entertainment.
