Six Policemen, One Soldier Killed As Gunmen Attack Checkpoints In Cross River

Unidentified gunmen on Wednesday, March 3, attacked two checkpoints of the Nigerian Police Force in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State killing at least six policemen and a soldier.

The early morning attack occurred at Ofotura communities, where two officers were shot and killed while another four officers were also killed at the Oyadama checkpoint. All their arms were carted away by the hoodlums.

Spokesperson of the Cross River State Police Command, Irene Ugbo, who confirmed the attack said they were killed while their arms were carted away.

Amongst the dead officers include a popular Inspector Best Okereke, a native of the Imabana community in the neighboring Abi Local Government Area whose fingers were chopped off and was shot in the chest.

A soldier who mans another checkpoint was said to have been shot in the hand but died several hours later.

This comes barely a week after four policemen were shot dead at the Idundu axis of Calabar.
