At least 10 families residing at Trinity street in Akwakuma community, Owerri North Local Government Area, Imo State, are reportedly trapped in their homes after a heavy downpour caused a landslide in the community.

MBB reports that the landslide resulted in a wide gully erosion site after it rained from Sunday night till Monday Morning.

Community members have called on the state government to act urgently before their homes are submerged in the gully erosion.

In August, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had warned of a nationwide flood.

Akwakuma community in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State is only one of the many Nigerian communities battling floods since the onset of the rainy season.
