The Police Special Anti-Robbery Squad popularly known as SARS, has been dragged to court for alleged torture, rape and murder of a lady in lieu of her disappeared boyfriend.
The lady dentified as Miss Ifeoma Stella Abugu died in police detention a day after she was arrested by SARS Operatives in Abuja.
According to the family lawyers who has taken up the case, she was arrested in lieu of her fiance, Afam Ugwunwa, when the SARS officers came looking for him for an undisclosed offense without seeing him.
The Lawyers are accusing SARS of assaulting her sexually before killing her.
In a petition to the Inspector General of the Police sighted by GioTV, the SARS operatives invaded the house of Mr Afam at Wumba village Lokogoma Abuja, around 5pm on 10th September 2020 and not seeing their target, arrested Miss Abugu. She died the following day in detention.
It was not until 15th September 2020 that the Family got information of her death and that her remains has been deposited in the Mortuary at Gwagwalada Teaching Hospital Abuja.
The Identity of the SARS operatives that whisked her away remain unknown even though the SARS unit at Guzape Abuja have acknowledged that the operatives were on illegal duty.
The case is currently under investigation and the family of the deceased are saying they want justice and the killing of their daughter must not be swept under the carpet.
