Over eleven persons have been arrested by the Kano State Hisbah Board in the metropolis for not fasting in the daytime during the ongoing Ramadan.
Dr. Haroun Sina, Commander-General of the board said this on Saturday.
According to the Commander-General, three males and eight females were among those arrested.
They were caught eating food during the time of the arrest, adding that after investigation, only one of the arrested females was found to have a cogent reason for not fasting and was later released.
“The board invited the parents of the arrested youths and cautioned them not to allow their children, especially girls, to go out anytime they feel like so they will not follow bad company,”
According to him, the board would continue to raid hideouts of such youths with a view to arresting and prosecuting them.
He added, “A Muslim woman should not be seen eating in public during fasting for whatever reason, except she has her monthly period.
“Fasting is compulsory for healthy, adult Muslims in the month of Ramadan, except for travellers, women that are menstruating or elderly people.”
