The Rivers State Police Command has arrested an officer attached to the Police Mobile Force, 43 Squadron, Gombe State, in connection with the killing of Olafuro Peterside.
Peterside was shot and killed by the officer at a popular bar in Elekahia, Port Harcourt, in the local government area of the state.
It was reported that the deceased was out with his family when the unfortunate incident occurred.
The policeman responsible for the shooting was accompanied by another officer from the same squad, both of whom were on special duty in Rivers State at the time.
Grace Iringe-Koko, the Command Public Relations Officer, confirmed the officer’s arrest during an interview with journalists. She also mentioned that Peterside was at the scene with his wife and three children when the incident happened.
Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police, disclosed that the police officer fired his rifle into the air in response to an alarm raised by some individuals regarding a robbery incident in the area. Unfortunately, a stray bullet from the officer’s rifle struck and fatally injured Peterside, who was immediately rushed to a hospital. Sadly, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The Command PRO assured the public that the investigation into the incident is currently underway.
