A man suspected to be mentally challenged has beheaded an 84-year-old man, Elder Alfred Opadipe, in Ipara community, Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The man identified as David Shodola, 32, reportedly beheaded his victim on Friday morning, throwing the town into confusion.

He also ended up dead as he violently resisted arrest and attacked police officers with a machete.

Ogun State Police spokesperson, Omotola Odutola, who confirmed the incident on Friday evening, said a distress call from an unnamed informant prompted Divisional Police Officer (DPO) CSP Bankole Isara Eluyeru to lead some officers to the scene.

According to her, the suspect fiercely resisted arrest as he used “the machete on the DPO and his men. ”The team succeeded “in neutralising the suspect and recovering a weapon from him,” she affirmed.

The police spokesperson, however, asserted that there was “no recount of the suspect being a madman from the intelligence the police gathered.”
