The Delta State police command on Wednesday, April 19, arraigned a former officer of its command, Inspector Ubi Ebri, for allegedly shooting a businessman, Onyeka Ibe, dead along Ugbolu-Illah road in Asaba, the state capital on April 5.
The dismissed inspector was arraigned the before Asaba magistrate court on remand proceedings for the murder of Onyeka Ibe. The court ordered that the suspect be remanded at the Ogwashi Uku correctional center while the case file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice and prosecution of the suspect by the office of the DPP.
It was reported that a riot broke out in the capital city after Ibe who recently got married was shot dead at the checkpoint. Late Ibe was said to be on his way to work when he was stopped by the policemen.
According to his colleagues, he refused to offer a N100 bribe which angered one of the policemen who shot him in the head, killing him on the spot. Angry youths had stormed the police headquarters with his corpse, demanding justice.
