Pele Statue Unveiled To Mark 50th Anniversary Of World Cup triumph

Pele’s 1970 World Cup triumph with the Selecao will clock 50 years in June and the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has unveiled a statue of Pele at its headquarters.

Brazil hosted and won the tournament and the likes of Pele, Jairzinho, Rivelino, and Tostao stood out as they defeated Italy by 4-1 to lift the trophy for the third time.

The Samba Boys won all of their seven matches en route to the finals and are regarded as the greatest team of all time.

But the Santos legend was available at the presentation ceremony at the CBF’s museum because he finds it difficult to walk.

Pele, who will clock 80 later in the year, had his statue dressed in the traditional yellow and blue strip worn in the 1970 World Cup.

However Jairzinho, Clodoaldo and Brito there to witness the ceremony along with current Brazil coach Tite.
