President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the Supreme Court’s verdict on the July 16, 2022, gubernatorial election in Osun State.

It was reported that the Supreme Court earlier on Tuesday affirmed the election of Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party as governor of the state.

Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim, who delivered the judgment, ruled that former governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, who challenged the victory of Adeleke, based all his allegations against the election on unfounded hearsay.

Reacting, President Buhari said that with the final decision by the court, the political class and its supporters should be reminded that the “main task at hand is to make the people feel the impact of good governance, where a prosperous, peaceful, and stable Osun is guaranteed.”

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, the president urged all citizens and residents of the state to give Adeleke all the support needed to “ensure that programs, policies, plans, and aspirations fashioned to make individuals and businesses flourish succeed.”

Buhari said: “Elections should be seen as the path to an end, which is the progress of the people in a peaceful environment, rather than unending bickering. This is the time for inclusion and harmony in the state at the end of litigation.”
