Pauline Tallen, the Minister of women affairs on Thursday made some revelations about the abuse gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu allegedly suffered at the hands of her husband.
Tallen spoke at a world press conference organized by Women Radio 91.7FM and Nigerian Women Trust Funds on “the Landmark Judgment on 35% Affirmative Action for Women on April 6, 2022.”
The minister, who described the late singer as the breadwinner of the family, further said that Mr. Nwachukwu ensured his wife was cut off from her immediate family members so he could abuse her.
“When she sings, the man collects her royalties. But she goes out and comes back begging on her kneel. At times, she sleeps in an uncompleted building. This is horrible!” she said.
Tallen urged women to speak out when in a marriage that is full of violence.
“Women must come out and speak, all men and women of conscience should always come out and speak. We call on neighbors where this act is being perpetrated to come out and speak.
“It is so sad that so many women are living in abusive marriages but are afraid to leave just because of what the society will say,” she said.
Tallen noted that although she is not in support of divorce, women who are subjected to violence in their marriages should speak out and be assisted.
The minister met Osinachi’s children on Tuesday at their Abuja residence.
