When criminals boast of possessing more sophisticated weapons than all the security agencies in a country, then there is a need for everyone to feel concerned. This is the situation Nigeria has found itself.

According to the inspector general of police, Mohammed Adamu, none of the security agencies in the country has the caliber of weapons in the possession of criminals. The police chief made this known at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, February 19, when he received senior officers of the police, Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies, Daily Trust reports.

IGP Adamu laments, says criminals have more sophisticated weapons then security agencies Source: Original Adamu said there is a correlation between the increase in crisis in southern Nigeria and the number of weapons in the hands of militants. The IGP hinted that the weapons are being smuggled to the country through the sea, adding that the criminals stealing crude and other products parade such sophisticated weapons. “The caliber of weapons they’re carrying, none of us in the law enforcement agencies are carrying them,” he said.
