The ugly incident occurred at Atta in the Ikeduru local government area of Imo state, causing heavy traffic gridlock, The Nation reports.

The newspaper adds that the lifeless body of the police officer was seen on the ground while police operatives who were at the scene of the incident cordoned the area from the people.

It was gathered that the truck fled after crushing the police officer. A motorist who spoke to The Nation claimed that the truck crushed the officer after the cop had waved at it to stop allegedly to collect the usual N50 bribe.

He said that the trailer was on a speed lane and blared his horns repeatedly and rammed on the police officer who refused to go out from the tarred road. The eyewitness said other police officers at the scene of the incident went after the truck but said he was not sure if they were able to get him.

The police command in the state has also confirmed the ugly incident.
