The Nigerian government has declared readiness to partner with China to tackle insecurity.

Police Minister, Maigari Dingyadi hosted Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Cui Jianchun at the Ministry Headquarters in Abuja.

Dingyadi said the world was aware that Africa’s most populous nation faces serious security problems.

He cited terrorism and banditry in the North, the secessionist movement in the South-East, kidnapping, and other criminal activities across the country.

“Nigeria is not the only country facing these problems in Africa, our neighboring countries also share in these problems with us”, he said.

Dingyadi noted that with the support of the international community, Nigeria should be able to solve the problems.

He said security cannot be separated from poverty and unemployment and assured that the federal government was doing its best through poverty alleviation programs.

The Minister told Nigerians that the security of lives and properties was the responsibility of everyone and urged them to share information and intelligence gathering that would assist security agencies.

In his remarks, Cui Jianchun said China and Nigeria have had a profound diplomatic relationship for the past 50 years.

The envoy stressed the need for both countries to work together to improve bilateral relations and intelligence sharing.

Cui Jianchun emphasized priority areas, adding that the first is infrastructure.

“The second is about Information and Communication Technology (ICT), China is taking the lead in 5G technology and has a great impact in every way of life and industries. I think both countries can work together to bring more investment”, he said.
