Delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna state have been told to return N2 million each that they received from Adam Namadi, the son of former Vice President Namdi Sambo.
According to DailyTrust, despite spending a large sum, the young man only received two votes.
He ran in the primary to become the party’s candidate for the House of Representatives’ North Federal Constituency.
Namadi, who promised to add N1.5 million to the amount given to each delegate, received the fewest votes of the three candidates.
The delegates collected millions of naira from aspirants who appeared to be eager to outspend one another.
In the end, the incumbent representative of the constituency, Samaila Suleiman, triumphed over Namadi and Shehu Usman ABG.
Suleiman, who recently defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), won with 22 votes to Shehu Usman ABG’s 14 votes.
According to delegates, Suleiman distributed between N3.5m and N4m to each delegate, while ABG distributed N2.5m in cash and Namadi distributed N2m.
However, after losing the competition, ABG and Namadi both demanded an immediate refund.
Suleiman, the Chairman of the House Committee on Special Duties, left the APC after Governor Nasir el-eldest Rufai’s son expressed interest in his seat in the green chamber.
