An angry mob on Sunday apprehended and severely beat a twenty-eight-year-old suspected thief who was allegedly caught burgling a shop along Airport Road in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

A passerby witnessed the suspect in the act of burgling a woman’s shop and raised an alarm, attracting the attention of security personnel from a nearby popular hotel.

The suspect attempted to flee but was chased down and captured by the mob.

Following the apprehension, he was subjected to a severe beating after stealing some female slippers from the targeted shop.

Speaking with our correspondent at the scene, the suspect, who claimed to be a native of Kwale Community in Delta State but resides at Mechanic Village, Army Barracks in Effurun, denied the allegations.

He said, “I did not break the shop. I am not a thief. It’s a lie. I am not a thief. I was just passing by.”

When asked about his presence at the shop and the identity of the actual burglar, he remained silent, pretending to be in pain.

The suspect, identified as Nnamdi, endured severe beatings and sustained grievous injuries before eventually being released.
