A man has been arrested after he walked into Laikipia University in Kenya, and stabbed a first-year student to death.
Eyewitnesses rushed to the scene after they heard screams coming from the hostels. It was learned that they found the girl on the ground writhing in pain. The man then attempted to end his life by stabbing himself, but this was stopped by the irate mob who gave him a beating of his life.
An eyewitness, Amos Kinuthia said they rushed the student to the hospital but she succumbed to the injuries along the way.
He said;
“We found the girl who was unconscious, and we rushed her to hospital, but she died on the way.”
While the man who was saved by police officers while being beaten has been taken to a police station, the body of the deceased was moved to Nyahururu County Referral Hospital morgue.
According to the caretaker of the hostel, the man had been banned from accessing the rooms, but he did not respect the decision that was made by the management.
He was reportedly banned after a lady who is a friend to the deceased reported that he once tried to force himself on her. The incident reportedly pushed the deceased into cutting off communications with the suspect, a move cops believe led to the murder.
It remains unclear how the man who resides in Nakuru managed to enter the University compound and gained access to the lady’s hostel, where he committed the heinous act.
The police have questioned a friend of the deceased, and it was learned that she recorded a statement about the murder and when the suspect tried to force himself on her.
