A young man, identified simply as Efe, has reportedly committed suicide in the Okuokoko community, Okpe council area of Delta state.

According to witnesses, the deceased, said to be in his 30s, was found dead in his apartment on Sunday morning.

He was said to have died after consuming poison.

A friend of the deceased, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed the victim attempted suicide almost a month ago because the girlfriend wanted out of their relationship.

Though uncertain about the circumstances that led to him taking poison again, he stated the common belief is it was related to the girlfriend.

“This is something that has happened before. He was rushed to the hospital once before it reoccurred. Right now, nobody knows what happened. He was just found dead in his house.

“That last month, the girlfriend said she didn’t want the relationship anymore and he drank something and passed out. But fortunately, he was rushed to the hospital and he survived it.

“Every finger is pointing at the girl that it was probably because of love and all that. He was living fine, he had a well-paying job. This unfortunate occurrence, I don’t really understand,” the friend said.

A source claimed the doctor who treated the deceased after the first attempt, advised he should be “closely monitored as he may try it (suicide) again”.

The Delta State Police Command was yet to confirm the incident, as of the time of filing this report.
