The Katsina State Police has paraded no fewer than 28 suspects for flouting the recent security challenge containment order in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Gambo Isah said the defaulters were intercepted while conveying a trailer load of about 80 animals from Zamfara to Abuja in disregard of the executive order banning interstate cattle transportation geared towards restoring peace in the state.
Among the suspects are alleged bandits’ informants’ including a wanted notorious bandit as well as cattle rustlers.
According to the police PRO, 32-year-old Auwal Aliyu is an alleged fugitive and a notorious bandit, who has been on the wanted list for various crimes, bordering on banditry.
The fugitive, SP Gambo said was arrested with a vigilante uniform of the rank of a Superintendent, while trying to escape from Niger State as a result of the ongoing onslaught against bandits in the state.
The suspect has, however, denied all allegations, saying he is a traditional medicine seller, but could not explain how he came about the uniform.
SP Gambo informed that investigations are ongoing and all suspects will be charged to court in due course.
