Social critic, Aisha Yesufu has criticized Kano State Islamic Police, Hisbah.

She said the Hisbah police should be ashamed of itself and the ‘political sharia’ it practices.

Yesufu claimed the focus of Hisbah should be on the children who are roaming the streets, abandoned by their parents.

The statement followed a ruling by the Kano High Court banning a popular Tiktoker, Murja Kunya, from featuring on all social media platforms.

The order was delivered by Justice Nasiru Saminu on Monday while ruling on her bail application, according to the spokesperson for the Kano State High Court, Baba Jibo Ibrahim.

Murja Kunya is standing trial on charges bothering on misdemeanor, improper conduct, and immoral behaviour, contrary to Islamic laws of morality.

Hisbah had arrested the controversial Tiktoker, charged her to court, and was remanded in prison custody since February 20, 2024.

The judge restricted her from using all social media platforms pending the determination of the case and ordered the Commissioner of Police to arrest her if she violated the ban.

However, this has been viewed by many as a crass violation of her fundamental right to free speech.

In a post on her X handle on Tuesday, Yesufu wondered why Murja should be Hisbah’s problem with children roaming the streets.

She wrote: “Hisbah should be ashamed of itself and the political sharia it practices. Children are roaming the streets abandoned by their parents and that is not the focus of Hisbah. Neither are they focused on child support that is not being paid. It is Murja that is their problem.”
