Bayer Leverkusen has confirmed that Kai Havertz has left the Germany team’s training camp, to complete his £90million move to Chelsea.

Havertz has been linked with the Blues for months and the deal is expected to be confirmed imminently.

The 21-year-old was an unused substitute, as his country was held to a 1-1 draw by Spain on Thursday night.

He has now left for London, where he will wrap up his transfer to the Premier League.

Leverkusen’s sporting director, Rudi Voller, told the club’s website: “I exchanged ideas with [German FA chief] Oliver Bierhoff and Joachim Low over the past few days.”

He said he appreciated “the DFB’s understanding of the special situation of the player and also for us as a club. We are grateful to the national coach that Kai can now sort things out with our support on-site in London.”

It is understood both Chelsea and Leverkusen expected him to be left on the bench for the Germans against Spain to avoid the risk of injury as the two parties ensure the massive transfer goes ahead.
