Juventus football club of Italy has confirmed that defender Daniele Rugani has tested positive for the deadly Coronavirus, which is sweeping across Italy, Europe and much of Asia.
Juventus released a statement on Wednesday night announcing that the 25-year-old Italy international, who made seven appearances for the Serie A side this season, has contracted the virus but is showing no symptoms.
According to the club, Rugani has now been quarantined in a bid to reduce the risk of the footballer to his Juventus teammates and club coaches.
Juventus said on their official website: “The footballer Daniele Rugani has tested positive for Coronavirus-COVID-19 and is currently asymptomatic.
“Juventus Football Club is currently activating all the isolation procedures required by law, including the census of those who have had contact with him.”
Cristiano Ronaldo is currently spending time in his Portugues hometown of Madeira to avoid contracting the virus in Italy where the case is high, as all sporting activities have been stopped in the country.
Ronaldo’s doctors reportedly ordered him to stay away from training at the club’s facilities in Turin to avoid any risk of infection.
