Kidnappers of 80-year-old Napoleon Alele, father of the Chairman of Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Embeleakpo Alele, have demanded N100m ransom to release the octogenarian.

Pa Alele was abducted by yet-to-be-identified gunmen at his country home, Agbere, on May 8, 2020.

A family source said the abductors contacted the family some days ago and demanded nothing less than an N100m before they could let the old man off their hook.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, Asinim Butswat, a Superintendent of Police, confirmed that the octogenarian was still in captive, saying the police had launched a manhunt for the suspected abductors.

Butswat said: “The suspected kidnappers invaded the riverine community of Agbere through the waterways and kidnapped the victim at his residence on 8 May 2020 at the wee hours. They wounded a member of a local vigilante group who raised the alarm and tried to prevent the abduction.

“The police tactical units have been deployed to the area for safe rescuing of the victim.”
