Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, has stated that he is not desperate to become President of Nigeria because of the benefits he would receive.
Mr Obi is one of 15 candidates vying for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket in the 2023 election.
On May 30, the PDP will hold its presidential primaries.
During an interview with BBC Pidgin, the former governor of Anambra State spoke.
“My lifelong ambition is to see a Nigeria that is prosperous. I am not desperate to become Nigerian president,” he said.
Obi noted that he was already a successful man before he entered politics.
“I don’t want to become president because of what I’ll gain. I want to become Nigerian president because of what I can offer,” he said.
“If it is money I want I will not leave over N70 billion in Anambra State account when I was leaving office. How many governors can do that?”
Obi stated that insecurity can be addressed by creating jobs, and that he will also equip security agencies to do their jobs well.
