Prof Wole Soyinka, a Nobel Laureate, has denied paying tribute to Ahmed Bola Tinubu when he was elected the All Progressives Congress presidential flagbearer.

This was said in a statement made by his spokesman, Abiola Owoaje, on Friday, captioned, “I did not pay tribute to Tinubu- Soyinka.”

Shortly after he was elected as the APC’s presidential flagbearer, a tribute titled “Prof Wole Soyinka’s homage to Sen Asiwaju Tinubu” went viral on numerous WhatsApp platforms, reportedly authored by Soyinka praising Tinubu’s political achievements.

Earlier last year, the elder statesman also criticized a social media post backing Tinubu for the presidency in 2023.He maintained that he did not operate or own social media accounts.

The statement further said, “The literary luminary reiterated his position on the 2023 elections and the issues surrounding it, noting that he has no business meddling in the struggle for power by political parties in the country.

“Soyinka enjoins the general public to be on alert to the antics of faceless cowards spreading falsehood, adding that they should not partake in the despicable action of the authors by spreading the cocktail of lies.”
