Gunmen Abduct Catholic Bishop, His Driver In Owerri

Suspected kidnappers have abducted the Auxiliary Bishop of Owerri Catholic Archdiocese, Most Rev. Dr. Moses Chikwe.

Bishop Chikwe was being chauffeured by his driver when their vehicle was attacked by the gunmen along with the World Bank – Umuguma road in the evening on Sunday, December 27. He was taken away together with his driver. His car was later dropped at the Assumpta Cathedral.

Bishop Chikwe was consecrated a Bishop on December 12th, 2019. Before he was appointed an Auxillary bishop by Pope Francis, he was the Director of Education of the Archdiocese and collaborator of the Parish of St. Thomas More.

The spokesperson of the state police command, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the incident and said the state commissioner of police, has activated the Commands Quick Intervention Team and Anti-Kidnapping Unit to move into the matter to rescue the Bishop and possibly arrest the hoodlums.
