A fire incident at Sango Market in Ibadan has resulted in the destruction of goods worth millions of naira.

According to Daily Post, it was gathered that the fire incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday.

It was learnt that about twenty shops were affected in the incident.

The inferno was said to have been caused by an electric spark.

General Manager of Oyo State Fire Service, Akinyinka Akinyemiju confirmed the incident to Daily Post on Sunday.

Akinyemiju, while speaking with Daily Post, noted that the agency received the report of the fire incident around 2:35 am on Sunday.

“They called our men about 2:35 am but by the time our men got there, it has affected many shops. 24 shops were affected.

“The only problem we have is that most of the time, the traders do not trash the waste when they are closing.

“I will suggest that all markets should have fire volunteers. Most of the roads have been blocked and this is making it difficult for our men to get there on time.

“There are certain things they need to put in place to prevent future occurrences. Many people do not want to do things for themselves. They want government to do everything.”
