Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has declared Thursday, October 3, and Friday, October 4, 2024, as public holidays in preparation for the local government elections set for October 5.

In a statewide address on Wednesday, Governor Fubara also announced strict movement restrictions across the state. From midnight on Friday, October 4, until 5:00 pm on Saturday, October 5, both vehicular and human movement into, out of, and within Rivers State will be completely prohibited.

The Governor emphasized the importance of this decision to ensure that all registered voters can travel to their respective communities and exercise their civic duties without disruption. He further assured that security agencies have been tasked with enforcing the restriction and arresting violators.

“We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the elections are peaceful and orderly,” Governor Fubara stated.

The movement ban is expected to bolster security and prevent any interference in the upcoming elections.
