A magistrate court in Lagos on Wednesday, February 10, remanded a 27-year-old fisherman, Fatai Yussuf in a custodial center for allegedly killing his six-week-old daughter.
The suspect who is facing a count charge of murder was accused of throwing his six-week-old daughter into a lagoon because she was sick. He reportedly committed the said offense on December 27, 2020, at Ajanaku lagoon in Badagry, in the presence of his son who tried to stop him.
Yussuf reportedly returned home to lie to his wife and her brother that he took their baby to the hospital. The incident was reported to the police after the truth was uncovered.
Chief Magistrate, P.E. Nwaka who presided over the case did not take the suspect’s plea. He also ordered that Yussuf be remanded at the Ikoyi Custodial Center pending legal advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Nwaka then adjourned the case until February 23.
