The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Monday, September 16, 2024, a public holiday in observance of Eid-ul-Mawlid, the celebration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement released by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the ministry.
Minister Tunji-Ojo extended his congratulations to the Muslim Ummah, both within Nigeria and in the diaspora, as they mark this special occasion. He also encouraged Muslims and Nigerians at large to embrace the values of patience, sacrifice, and resilience during this period.
The Minister emphasized the importance of using the Eid-ul-Mawlid celebrations as an opportunity for prayers for peace and the continued prosperity of Nigeria. He called on citizens to reflect on the teachings of Prophet Muhammad and work towards fostering a more peaceful and egalitarian nation.
