EndSARS: Protest Promoters Must Face The Law – Presidency

The presidency through its Senior Special Media and Publicity to the President, Garba Shehu has said the EndSARS leaders who Central Bank of Nigeria froze their accounts must face the consequence of their actions.

The presidential aide also stated that the government will never allow a constitutionally allowed exercise to degenerate into disorder.

Shehu maintained that Muhammadu Buhari is the president and would allow the laws to take its course.

Shehu, on Sunday, November 8, made this known on Channels TV, with his comment backing the recent freezing of suspected EndSARS leaders’ accounts.

He noted that Buhari is responsible for his government, said the constitution, though allows peaceful protest, does not give room for riots and violence.

GIO TV recalls that the CBN’s request to freeze the accounts of those linked to the #EndSARS protests was granted by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

Nigeria’s apex bank was given the go-ahead to freeze the accounts of 20 people and a public affairs company linked to the protests against police brutality in Nigeria.

Speaking on Sunday, Garba Shehu further explained that with the destruction that trailed the EndSARS protest, the laws of the country must be “allowed to decide.”

“I am not particular about any celebrity or promoter but this country has been harmed enormously and people should be prepared to account for what they did. “Now, the laws of the country must be allowed to decide, to rule on wrongdoing on the part of anybody.” This country has only one president and has only one constitution. President Muhammadu Buhari is responsible for his government. The buck stops on his table.”

Shehu also berated desperate politicians for sponsoring the EndSARS protest and told them to publicly denounce the destruction.

Meanwhile, Shehu Sani, a former senator who represented Kaduna Central, has knocked the governors and leaders from the northern region for prioritising “the issue of social media over the issue that affects the lives and livelihoods of their people.”
Speaking in an interview, the former lawmaker described as a misplaced priority the northern governors’ controversial resolution that the social media should be censored and regulated.
