The suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele has been granted leave by a Federal High Court in Lagos to serve Yusuf Magaji Bichi, the Director General of the Department of State Services, DSS, the order of court admitting him to bail and directing his remand in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
Justice Nicholas Oweibo granted the order on Tuesday, following an ex-parte application moved by Emefiele’s counsel, Ogonnaya Sonuga.
The application is supported by a 15-paragraph affidavit deposed by Adeogun Ayodele Samuel from Victor Opara Law Firm, The Guardian reports.
Recall that the court had, on 25th July 2023, granted Emefiele N20 million bail after he was arraigned on charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
The suspended CBN governor is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on possession of 123 rounds of live ammunition and possession of a single barrel shotgun without licence.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
After the court’s proceedings, the DSS rearrested Emefiele.
